The Many Colors of a W*O*M*A*N

<><><><>NEWS & LINKS

The Many Colors of a Woman, Inc. (MCW) was founded in Hartford in 1987 with the mission to research, discover, encourage, present and celebrate the vibrant expression of jazz and the contributions of women to this unparalleled, creative African-American art form.  The organization presented its first free concert in the fall of that year.  The agency emphasizes the vibrancy of women, and from the beginning has always enjoyed active participation and support of men, young adults, students and children as performers, and in other organizational/production support roles.  MCW’s key activity is to produce a jazz concert showcasing the talents of women.  Over the past 29 years, female instrumental musicians have been joined by vocalists, poets, storytellers, dancers, actors and comedians as each one demonstrates the breadth and depth of her talents.  At the center of each event is a focus on jazz.  Over the years, to expand the reach of the organization and to offer this enriching experience to a broader audience, MCW added additional days to  concert performance.  Each  performance event celebrates women and their role in the indigenous American creative art form that is jazz.  MCW has played a significant role in establishing Hartford as a hub of cultural entertainment.
